As anticipated, the upcoming qualifying cycle for the 2026 World Cup will be the last for Didier Deschamps as head coach of the French national team.
Details: Today, the French Football Federation confirmed yesterday’s reports that Deschamps will step down from his role after the conclusion of the 2026 World Cup.
Deschamps has held the position since the summer of 2012. Under the 56-year-old coach, France won the 2018 World Cup and narrowly lost to Argentina in the 2022 final via a penalty shootout. He also led France to the final of Euro 2016 on home soil.
Reminder: Earlier reports suggested that legendary midfielder Zinedine Zidane could be a candidate to succeed Deschamps.
