On Tuesday, July 14, France face Spain in the semi-finals of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, and the match marks a historic occasion for Les Bleus head coach Didier Deschamps and for the tournament itself.
Details: The semi-final is Deschamps' 26th match in charge of France at FIFA World Cup tournaments. In doing so, he has set a new all-time record for the most matches managed by a head coach in World Cup history.
Deschamps took charge of the France national team in July 2012. Since then, he has guided Les Bleus to the 2018 FIFA World Cup title and led them to the 2022 World Cup final.
Meanwhile, Les Bleus have lost seven of their last 10 meetings with Spain over the past two decades. It is the highest number of defeats France have suffered against any single opponent during that period.
