Former Spanish Football Federation president sentenced by court
A scandal erupted at the 2023 Women's World Cup in Australia when the president of the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) kissed a player without consent. Now, he has received a court ruling for his actions.
Details: According to Marca, Luis Rubiales has been sentenced to pay a fine of €20 per day for 18 months. Additionally, the court has ruled that Rubiales must stay at least 200 meters away from Jennifer Hermoso and is prohibited from communicating with the Spanish footballer for one year.
Rubiales and three other officials were acquitted of coercion charges. Previously, the Audiencia Nacional prosecutor had requested a total prison sentence of 2 years and 6 months for Rubiales.
Reminder: During the award ceremony for the Spanish women’s national team, who defeated England in the World Cup final, Rubiales kissed team captain Jennifer Hermoso on the lips without her consent as he handed her the winner's medal.
Following the incident, over 80 female players, including all 23 World Cup squad members, refused to play for Spain as long as Rubiales remained the head of the RFEF.
