Former Safa CEO Denis Mumble on the elections and Safa president debate: I just think Dr Irvin Khoza is the right man to lead Safa as he is credible

Denis Mumble would like to see Orlando Pirates and PSL chairman Irvin Khoza taking over as Safa President.

Mumble, a former Safa CEO, said South Africa is awash with talented and capable leaders to run this organisation.

“I think South Africa is filled with talent to run any organisation. However, the only problem I have is that SAFA must not be allowed to go to any election without fixing the constitution,” he told football publication FarPost.

“That constitution prohibits the likes of Jessica Motaung from standing for the position in the first place. They can’t even be nominated.

“But there are plenty of people in the PSL who I think are capable of doing that,” he said.

“If anything, my preference is to do a short-term fix of the association. I know people are going to disagree with me because he is old, but Irvin Khoza is a logical option for the presidency of SAFA to restore some credibility within the organisation, as he has done with the PSL.

“I am not saying that he is the only option, but I think the likes of Irvin Khoza would be something that we need to look at. But you can also have people like Lucas and Jessica who can restore some credibility to SAFA.

“Then there are a number of people within SAFA itself that can also restore credibility. As long as they obey the law and do not make up the rules based on their personal bias and prejudices."
