After law enforcement managed to subdue the offenders, police identified one of them as a former professional footballer. However, the court decided not to disclose the perpetrator’s name, but according to France 3 Bretagne, he is a Rennes academy product who played for the youth teams before moving on to Caen.
Once the former player sobered up, he immediately realized what he had done and began apologizing to the assaulted officer.
Despite the fact that the policewoman accepted his apology, the court still sentenced him to six months in prison.
The offender addressed the court, stating:
“From the bottom of my heart, I apologize. I never wanted to hurt you. Alcohol is no excuse for what happened,” the former footballer said in court, according to local media.
