Recent officiating decisions in the Premier League have drawn little praise, with the league’s referees facing mounting criticism from experts.

Details: Former Premier League referee Jeff Winter, who officiated from 1995 to 2004, has spoken out about how inconsistent VAR rulings are eroding trust in match officials.

Quote: "I’ve never been a big fan of VAR, and I’m still not. The inconsistency shows week after week. It’s always been an issue because one Premier League referee sees something from one angle, and another sees it differently.

But when you see situations in the same match where a player isn’t sent off for a terrible challenge, while another is dismissed for what most people would call an accident, it really raises doubts. I think trust in PGMOL and its referees is highly questionable at the moment," Winter told FourFourTwo.

Reminder: Despite the criticism, PGMOL chief Howard Webb maintains that the introduction of VAR has reduced the number of refereeing errors overall.
