Webb highlights significant reduction in referee errors in the EPL

Refereeing in the English Premier League has always been a hot topic, often stirring controversy over officiating mistakes. However, EPL refereeing chief Howard Webb asserts that mistakes by officials have notably decreased.

Details: According to the head of Professional Game Match Officials Limited (PGMOL), refereeing mistakes this season have dropped by 80% compared to last season, with the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) system playing a key role in this improvement.

Quote: "We have an independent panel, including former players, that reviews each decision every week. According to this panel — which operates independently of us [PGMOL]—there have been only two VAR errors this season, compared to ten at this point last year," Webb shared on the Stick to Football podcast.

Reminder: One of the more contentious calls came with the red card shown to Manchester United midfielder Bruno Fernandes in their 0–3 loss to Tottenham. Webb has since acknowledged that Fernandes’ dismissal was a mistake.
