The National Hockey League community was shaken by the sad news: former general manager of the Pittsburgh Penguins and New Jersey Devils, Ray Shero, has passed away.

Details: This was announced by the Minnesota Wild, where Shero served as a senior advisor. He was 62 years old.

Shero himself never played in the NHL, although he was drafted by the Los Angeles Kings. He earned his main fame and a championship title as the general manager of the Pittsburgh Penguins. In 2008, the team reached the Stanley Cup Final under his leadership, and just a year later, in 2009, they won the trophy.

Quote: "Ray Shero's smile and charisma lit up every room he entered and brightened the day for everyone fortunate enough to interact with him. He was widely respected in the hockey world for his ability to build teams and recognize talent, but he was even more loved for how he treated the people who were fortunate enough to know him," said NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman.

Reminder: Meredith Gaudreau, the wife of the tragically deceased hockey player Johnny Gaudreau, shared joyful news on Instagram on Monday — last week she welcomed a son, the third child in their family.
