Former Manchester United defender Axel Tuanzebe, now playing for Burnley, has filed a lawsuit against his former club, accusing them of negligence in handling his spinal injury.

According to Tuanzebe, the problems began in January 2020, when he was diagnosed with stress fractures in his lower spine. By the summer of 2022, the injury had become chronic. The lawsuit states that "with proper treatment, the player could have avoided pain and limitations and continued his career at the highest level." The 27-year-old defender is seeking compensation exceeding £1,000,000.
While on loan from Manchester United, Tuanzebe played for Aston Villa, Italian side Napoli, and Stoke City. After leaving Manchester, he spent two seasons at Ipswich Town. However, persistent back issues prevented him from establishing himself at any of these clubs. According to the player's representative, the intense workload and improper recovery only exacerbated his condition, whereas timely rest and correct treatment could have prevented serious consequences.
Thus, Tuanzebe accuses Manchester United of endangering his professional career and future in football through their actions and inaction.
This season, the player represents Burnley, for whom he has made seven appearances without any goal contributions.
