Former Manchester City player may become president of Georgia
Georgia is currently facing a difficult and unstable political situation, and its next president could be a former footballer.
Details: According to Georgian media, the frontrunner for the presidency is former Manchester City forward Mikheil Kavelashvili.
For the first time in the country’s history, the president will not be elected by popular vote but by a college of 300 delegates. Kavelashvili has been nominated as a candidate by the ruling party, "Power of the People."
Kavelashvili’s career in England was far from successful. He played only 4 Premier League matches for Manchester City and appeared in 24 more games in the Championship, scoring a total of 3 goals for the "Citizens."
After his time at Man City, Kavelashvili enjoyed a relatively successful career in Switzerland, playing for Grasshoppers, Zurich, Aarau, Luzern, and Basel. For the Georgian national team, he scored 9 goals in 46 appearances.
Reminder: The current mayor of Georgia’s capital, Tbilisi, is former AC Milan defender Kakha Kaladze.
