Former Liverpool player Yossi Benayoun attacked with grenade at his home in Israel
Former Liverpool and Israel national team footballer Yossi Benayoun was involved in a horrific incident involving a grenade explosion at the door of his own home, reports The Sun.
The incident reportedly took place on Sunday evening in Ramat HaSharon, north of Tel Aviv. An unidentified motorcyclist approached Benayoun's house, threw a grenade at the door, and fled the scene. At the time, Benayoun and his family were inside the house.
The explosion resulted in a fire, which was extinguished by firefighters who quickly arrived at the scene. Fortunately, the incident ended without any injuries, with damage only to property.
"This is definitely a mistake - I have no doubt that the grenade was not aimed at my house. At first I thought it was a gas cylinder explosion and we called the fire department. It was only when the police arrived at the house and found the remains of a grenade that we realised what really happened," Benayoun stated.
It should be noted that Israeli police have launched an investigation, classifying the case as a criminal attack rather than a terrorist act.
Additionally, Benayoun concluded his 22-year career in 2019.
