Ben Youssef Khalil is edging closer o taking over at Durban City.

The Betway Premiership side has a vacant coaching post since January when they parted ways with Sinethemba Badela.

Assistant coach, Pitso Dladla, has been holding the fort and also saw the team win the Nedbank Cup under his reign.

But now the club's hierarchy are looking at bring Khalil to Kwa-Zulu Natal take over the reigns at the club.

It has now emerged that Khalil alongside Eric Tinkler are leading the race to take the coaching reigns.

Khalil is the favourite as he had a decent season at Kaizer Chiefs with his co-coach, Cedric Kaze, as they saw Chiefs finish third on the PSL standings.

Tinkler's season was somewhat not the best as he was let go by Sekhukhune United for failing to lead them to the third spot.

City are expected to announce Khalil on the June 22.
