Former Borussia Dortmund midfielder Marco Reus almost found himself in an unfortunate situation after relocating to the United States. According to Bild, the German star nearly chose a home for his family that had previously been inhabited by drug dealers.

Reus, together with his wife, German model Scarlett Gartmann, has been married since 2019. The couple shares a daughter born the same year. While searching for a house in Los Angeles, they viewed around 30 properties before finally settling on one. However, upon visiting their prospective new home, they discovered broken windows, a damaged garage door, and another door that was heavily scratched.

“There was initially a guy living there who threw crazy parties all night long. Then, a sweet couple moved in, but after that, it was occupied by a drug dealer or something like that,” Reus and his wife revealed during a podcast with renowned German photographer Paul Ripke.

The couple also spoke with their neighbors to gather more details. They learned that the house had been occupied by people involved in drug trafficking and money laundering. The operation to arrest them even required the involvement of 12 FBI agents.

In the end, Reus and his family chose a different house. However, they are still facing issues with the new property: as of now, they report that it lacks gas, hot water, and heating.

As a reminder, Marco Reus made a move to Major League Soccer (MLS) in the summer of 2024, signing a 2.5-year contract with LA Galaxy.
