The perpetrator has been identified as Markus F., Schumacher’s former bodyguard, who used his access to personal information to orchestrate a blackmail scheme. Markus allegedly threatened to release the sensitive information on the dark web unless he received a ransom of £12 million.
It was revealed that Markus F. had been a trusted member of the Schumacher family’s inner circle for over eight years and served as a close aide to Michael’s wife, Corinna. However, their relationship deteriorated earlier this year when Corinna decided to dismiss him. Markus reportedly harbored resentment and decided to take revenge.
Markus is accused of stealing 1,500 confidential files from Schumacher's home, including photographs, videos, medical records, lists of medications, and details about Michael’s condition.
To carry out the extortion, Markus enlisted the help of his acquaintance, Yilmaz T., and Yilmaz's son, Daniel L., promising them a share of the proceeds.
Currently, Markus and Daniel have been released on bail, while Yilmaz remains in custody. The trial is scheduled to take place in Wuppertal in December. Prosecutors are seeking a minimum sentence of four years imprisonment for the accused if found guilty.
