Thulani Hlatshwayo has quit football.

The former Bafana captain has accepted the responsibility of being the President of the South African Football Players Union.

The tough-tackling defender made his professional debut in 20 for Ajax Cape Town and never looked back from there.

He then went to play for Orlando Pirates, Bidvest Wits and SuperSport United.

Interestingly, both SuperSport United and Bidvest Wits are now defunct.

His best stay would be at Ajax Cape Town where he cemented his trademark tough-tackling nature and also established himself as one of the bright future defenders for the country.

It was also at Ajax where his leadership qualities developed.

Later career moves to Bidvest Wits, Orlando Pirates and SuperSport were not surprising.

Having captained every team he played for, Hlatshwayo also captained the national team Bafana Bafana having also played for the national Under-17s and Under-20s teams.
