Today, the Italian national team faces a decisive group stage match against Croatia in Euro 2024, and head coach Luciano Spalletti has made a surprising selection with the starting lineup.
Compared to the previous matches against Albania (2-1) and Spain (0-1), Federico Chiesa has been left on the bench. For the first time since 1998, the "Azzurri" will start a major tournament match without a single Juventus player in the lineup.
Along with Chiesa, Juventus defenders Federico Gatti and Esteban Cambiasso, as well as central midfielder Nicolo Fagioli, remain on the bench.
In 1998, Italy fielded a team without Juventus players in their World Cup match against Cameroon, which they won 3-0.
