Flick prepares a surprise! Big change awaits De Jong

Hansi Flick may have found an unexpected solution to Barcelona's increasingly fierce battle for places.

Details: According to SPORT, the Barcelona head coach has been testing Frenkie de Jong at centre-back during training sessions. The experiment comes amid enormous competition in midfield, where the Dutchman has to fight for minutes with Pedri, Rodri, Gavi, Fermín López, Dani Olmo and Marc Bernal.

Flick is therefore considering another way to use De Jong without forcing him into the crowded battle for his usual position. The idea has already moved beyond theory, with the midfielder reportedly being tried in the heart of defence during recent sessions.

For Barcelona, such a move would give the coaching staff another option in central defence while also allowing one of the team's most technically gifted players to remain involved. At this stage, however, there is no indication that De Jong's positional change will become permanent — Flick is simply exploring the possibilities available to him.

It is worth noting that Barcelona's midfield competition is indeed remarkable: alongside De Jong, Flick can currently choose from Pedri, Rodri, Gavi, Fermín López, Dani Olmo and Marc Bernal.
