Flamengo ties down its captain: Gerson to renew until 2030
Flamengo are on the verge of finalizing a contract extension with midfielder Gerson that would keep the team captain at the club until 2030. The agreement was nearly reached after director José Boto met with the player’s representatives on Wednesday. The news was first reported by ge.
Although the new deal won’t make Gerson the highest earner on the squad, it includes a significant salary increase. Since returning to Flamengo in 2023, his earnings had remained unchanged, placing him among the lower-paid starters despite his growing influence. A revised offer from the club met the player’s expectations and brought the parties to an understanding.
Gerson has become a central figure in Flamengo’s setup since his return from Europe, earning a recall to the Brazilian national team in 2024 and taking over the captain’s armband. He turns 28 this May and is considered a leader both on and off the pitch under coach Filipe Luís.
