Flamengo Targeting Midfield Reinforcements Ahead of Club World Cup
Flamengo are actively scanning the transfer market, with a focus on strengthening key midfield positions ahead of the expanded Club World Cup. The Rio giants are prioritizing a replacement for Giorgian De Arrascaeta, whose persistent injuries have left a creative void in the squad, as well as a defensive midfielder to add depth.
Andreas Pereira is among the top candidates, with Fulham valuing the midfielder at around €20 million, which makes negotiations challenging. Lucas Paquetá has also been offered, but ongoing legal issues surrounding the player have stalled any potential deal, as reported by Pablo Rua for Coluna do Fla.
Head coach Filipe Luís has rotated several players to fill Arrascaeta’s role, but has yet to find someone equally effective. The club sees a creative playmaker as essential, especially with a demanding calendar that includes domestic and international competitions.
Jorginho is being considered as a candidate to strengthen the defensive midfield. Meanwhile, Arrascaeta’s recurring fitness problems continue to concern the coaching staff, who are managing his minutes cautiously.
Flamengo will kick off their Brasileirão campaign this Saturday against Internacional at the Maracanã, hoping to start strong despite the ongoing injury challenges.
