Five straight defeats: Rennes sack Jorge Sampaoli as head coach

Rennes are enduring a poor run of form, suffering five consecutive defeats, prompting the club’s management to take action and change the head coach.

Details: According to L’Équipe, Rennes have dismissed Jorge Sampaoli as head coach. An official announcement from the club is expected soon. Meanwhile, Glen Kamara and Mika Faye are among the players in discussions about potential departures, but they are waiting for clarity on the managerial situation before making a decision.

Rennes have lost their last five matches in a row—four in Ligue 1 and the Coupe de France. After 19 rounds, they sit 16th in the table with 17 points, just four points clear of the bottom-placed team.

Paulo Fonseca is set to become the new head coach of Lyon, having agreed to a two-year contract with Les Gones. He will replace Pierre Sage, who has been dismissed from his role.

Reminder: Borussia Dortmund also recently made a managerial change, parting ways with Nuri Şahin last week. Just seven days later, insider Florian Plettenberg reported that Niko Kovač would take over as their new head coach.
