First win secured. Sinner returns to the court after suspension
The Masters tournament on clay has kicked off in Rome, and on May 10, the world’s top-ranked player, Italian Jannik Sinner, stepped onto the court for the first time since his suspension.
His opening opponent was Mariano Navone, currently ranked No. 99. The Argentine put up a commendable fight, but couldn’t truly challenge for victory. Roared on by the home crowd, Sinner clinched a straight-sets win—6-3, 6-4.
One break was enough for the Italian in the opening set, but the start of the second saw him struggle. Sinner was broken three times, yet managed to close out the match after spending 1 hour and 39 minutes on court.
Interestingly, Sinner hasn’t had much success in Rome in recent years, with his best showing being a quarterfinal run in 2022. Up next for the Italian in the third round: Jesper de Jong.

It’s also worth noting that Sinner remains unbeaten in 2025. His winning streak has now reached 22 consecutive matches.
