London’s Chelsea continues to aggressively scour the transfer market as new head coach Xabi Alonso prepares for his debut season at the helm of Stamford Bridge.
Details: According to SportMediaset, Xabi Alonso is far from convinced by the reliability of Chelsea’s current goalkeepers, prompting the Blues to actively search for a new number one.

The initial target for the Stamford Bridge hierarchy was Roma’s shot-stopper Mile Svilar. The English club even submitted an official and rather generous bid of €50 million, but the Romans categorically rejected it, making it clear that the Serbian keeper is not for sale this summer. After this setback, Chelsea urgently shifted their focus to Milan’s star goalkeeper Mike Maignan.
The Blues had already attempted to lure the Frenchman last year, but the Rossoneri pulled him from the market at the last minute. The situation is further complicated by Maignan having recently extended his contract with the Milanese side until 2030.
It’s worth noting that this season, the French keeper has made 41 appearances in all competitions for the Italian club—keeping 16 clean sheets along the way. Transfermarkt currently values the player at €20 million.
Reminder: Former Chelsea striker Bobby Tambling has passed away.
