Finnish skier Krista Pärmäkoski refuses to fly after competition – what’s the reason?

Finnish Olympic champion Krista Pärmäkoski has chosen an unusual way to return home after the FIS World Cup event in Cogne, Italy. Instead of flying, she has opted for a 1,500 km journey by land and sea, reports Sportowe Fakty. The reason? Her dog, Edwin.

Pärmäkoski will travel 1,300 km by car from Italy to Travemünde, Germany, before taking a ferry to Helsinki. From there, she will drive another 350 km to Kuortane, Finland. The entire trip will take four days.

Her decision stems from the fact that Edwin, who accompanied her to the competition, hates flying. Wanting to ensure his comfort, she refused to leave him alone in the airplane’s cargo hold.

This choice has sparked debate in Finnish media, with some calling it irresponsible, given that the World Championships are approaching. However, Pärmäkoski remains unconcerned, emphasizing that Edwin’s presence is crucial for her mental well-being, making the long journey worthwhile.
