Financial issues remain unresolved. Here’s what’s stopping Barcelona from signing Williams

Barcelona remains determined to strengthen the left flank of their attack, and Nico Williams from Athletic continues to be one of the main candidates for this position. The Catalans already tried to sign him in the summer of 2024, but now the player himself is giving preference to a move to the Blaugrana.
Despite interest from Bayern, Arsenal, and Chelsea, Williams wants to stay in Spain. According to Football Espana, the deal is complicated by financial requirements—Athletic insists on the full release clause being paid, which amounts to €64 million, posing a significant hurdle for Barça.
As a result, the Catalans’ priority remains Luis Diaz from Liverpool, since his transfer can be structured more flexibly in terms of payment. Nevertheless, Williams remains among the backup options.
