Details: Less than 24 hours before the Champions League qualifier, Frankowski and Musiał were detained by police. Law enforcement reported that the two referees, along with a third individual, were caught on surveillance attempting to carry off a road sign. Upon detention, both referees were found to be under the influence, with blood alcohol levels exceeding 1.5‰.
Following this incident, Frankowski and Musiał were fined, and UEFA’s Control, Ethics, and Disciplinary Body has now issued a suspension effective through June 30, 2025.
In the match between Dynamo Kyiv and Rangers in Lublin, Poland, Frankowski was scheduled to serve as the video assistant referee, with Musiał as his assistant. After the incident, the Polish Football Association swiftly replaced the duo, appointing Tomasz Kwiatkowski and Paweł Malec in their stead.
Reminder: The Champions League qualifier between Dynamo Kyiv and Rangers was held in Poland due to the ongoing conflict in Ukraine following Russia’s full-scale invasion.
The Lublin match ended in a draw, while in Glasgow, the visitors prevailed. As a result, Rangers dropped into the Europa League, and Dynamo Kyiv joined them after a subsequent defeat to RB Salzburg in the playoff qualification round.
