FIFA President Gianni Infantino has become the subject of an official complaint submitted to the FIFA Ethics Committee.

Details: According to The Athletic, Infantino is accused of repeatedly violating political neutrality and faces calls for an investigation into the process by which U.S. President Donald Trump was awarded the inaugural FIFA Peace Prize.

The complaint was filed by the human rights organization FairSquare, which claims that Infantino has publicly and repeatedly expressed political support for Trump, in direct violation of Article 15 of the FIFA Code of Ethics.

FairSquare highlighted four violations:

  1. Lobbying for the Nobel Peace Prize for Trump
On the eve of the laureate announcement, Infantino wrote that Trump “definitely deserves” the award for his role in brokering a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip.
  2. Publicly defending Trump’s policies
At the America Business Forum conference, the FIFA president called Trump a close friend and urged people to “support his political course.”
  3. Presenting the FIFA Peace Prize during World Cup draw
FIFA’s video presentation of Trump echoed White House political messaging about “ending wars.” On stage, Infantino told Trump:
“You can always count on my support.”
  4. Video about Trump’s campaign rally
In January 2025, Infantino thanked the president for the invitation and finished the clip by saying: “Together we will make not only America, but the whole world great.”

FairSquare argues that these actions clearly demonstrate political support and violate FIFA’s obligation to remain neutral.

Additionally, FairSquare is calling for an investigation into the procedure behind the creation of the FIFA Peace Prize. According to the inquiry, the FIFA Council and vice presidents were not informed about the award’s creation or the criteria for its presentation.

Reminder: FIFA is introducing extra breaks during matches at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
