FIFA changes double-touch penalty rule

According to COPE, changes have been made to the rule concerning double touches during the execution of a penalty kick.
Details: A recent scandal that erupted during the Real Madrid vs Atletico Madrid Champions League clash sparked heated debates and discussions about the nuances of taking penalties.
With World Cup qualifiers looming, FIFA could not let the issue go unchecked. So, what has been decided?
FIFA has ruled that if a player unintentionally touches the ball twice during a penalty and the ball ends up in the net, the penalty will be retaken.
However, if the penalty is missed and the ball returns to the attacking team, the opposition will be awarded a direct free kick and the penalty will be considered missed.
These new regulations are expected to bring clarity in upcoming matches at the Club World Cup, World Cup qualifiers, and the World Cup itself.
Reminder: Honduras is targeting a return to the 2026 World Cup under the guidance of Reinaldo Rueda.
