Formula 1 star and Aston Martin driver Fernando Alonso has announced that he is becoming the ambassador for the Circuit de Catalunya, home to the Spanish Grand Prix. The racing ace shared the news on his Instagram page.

Alonso posted an update announcing his selection as the ambassador of the Catalan circuit.

“We have shared some wonderful moments together. Now, we’re taking it a step further. Fernando Alonso becomes the ambassador of the Barcelona-Catalunya circuit. Welcome to the Circuit team! 🤗” the message read.

It’s worth noting that the Circuit de Catalunya has hosted Formula 1 races since 1991. The record holders for most victories at this Grand Prix are Michael Schumacher and Lewis Hamilton, both with six wins in Barcelona.

Fernando Alonso has also triumphed at the Catalunya circuit, claiming victory twice—in 2006 and 2013.

As a reminder, the next round of this Formula 1 season will take place in Barcelona this coming weekend. The current championship leader is Oscar Piastri of McLaren, who is just three points ahead of his teammate Lando Norris.
