"Fed up with the jokes": British MMA fighter Taylor Swift on living with his name
Taylor Swift, a 21-year-old rising star in MMA from the UK, opened up to The Sun about the challenges of sharing his name with the world-famous pop singer.
The fighter admitted that he constantly endures jokes and teasing because of his name. At times, it bothered him so much that he even considered changing it.
"Even at weigh-ins, people start laughing. The worst part is when the announcer is reading out the names before a fight. People ask if I’m serious when I tell them my name. It gets a laugh when I’m going through airport security and on the door at clubs," Swift said.
Despite the name connection, Taylor isn’t a fan of the pop star, confessing he couldn’t name three of her songs. Instead, he prefers rock and rap music. Swift has been training in MMA for 14 months, winning three out of his four fights so far.
The fighter also recognizes that his famous name could work to his advantage as he aims to turn professional. In modern sports, social media presence and popularity are key, and a memorable name could help boost his career.
