Eighteen-year-old Romeo Ilzner, the son of Hoffenheim head coach Christian Ilzner, is preparing to embark on a career in MMA, reports Bild. Currently, the aspiring fighter is in Thailand, training for his first tournament, which will take place in March in Vienna.

Romeo announced that his initial goal is to participate in about ten amateur fights, after which he plans to transition to the professional level around the age of 21 or 22.

Although his father is deeply rooted in football, Romeo also tried the sport during his childhood. However, he later admitted that he lacked talent and passion for the game. Instead, he discovered his interest in martial arts and began training in boxing and kickboxing at the age of 15.

Romeo’s coaches praise his exceptional discipline and talent, which he attributes to his father’s influence.

"I’ve learned a lot from my dad, especially when it comes to discipline. If you just watch how hard he works every day, at some point, it rubs off on you," said Romeo.

He also shared that his parents have been fully supportive of his decision to pursue a career in combat sports.
