Yesterday marked the 14th round of the French Ligue 1, where Nantes faced Nice. The match concluded not only with the first defeat of the "Canaries" this season (0:1) but also with tragedy.

As reported by Ouest France, an unknown assailant stabbed a 31-year-old ultra fan of the Nice team in the back near the "Saint-Georges" bar, which is close to the stadium. The victim was rushed to the hospital, yet succumbed to the injuries after some time.

Reportedly, the perpetrator initially fled the scene of the crime but later surrendered himself at the local police station, admitting guilt.

Preliminary investigations suggest the assailant was a driver associated with a VTC transport company. He was ferrying Nice supporters from one of the city streets directly to the stadium. A conflict arose between the parties, and the exact reasons are yet to be determined.

The Nantes Public Prosecutor's Office has launched an inquiry into the deliberate homicide. Witness testimonies are ongoing today.

Nantes, via their official platform, "extends their deepest condolences to the family of the deceased and their loved ones."

Recall that about a month ago, Lyon's bus was attacked by fans, resulting in the coach sustaining head injuries, and a match against Marseille was postponed. Let us hope that the French Football Federation, along with the authorities, will take necessary measures to prevent the recurrence of such incidents in the future.
