During the 2026 World Cup qualifier between Finland and Poland, play was halted as the match was interrupted. The reason for the stoppage was a sudden deterioration in the condition of one of the spectators.
Details: According to the police, citing information from the Finnish Football Association, the fan has passed away.
Quote: "Police have confirmed the death of a supporter who suffered a medical emergency during the World Cup qualifying match in Huuhkajat. The Huuhkajat team and the Finnish Football Association extend their condolences to the family and friends of the spectator," the statement said.
Incidentally, the Polish football community is currently reeling from a major scandal, which has resulted in Robert Lewandowski refusing to play for the national team.
Recall: At a pre-match press conference before facing Finland, head coach Michał Probierz stated that the decision to strip Lewandowski of the captain's armband was his own, even though Robert had asked him to say that he had voluntarily stepped down as captain.
