Fallout from rape scandal: Conor McGregor dropped as face of whiskey brand
The owner of Proper No. Twelve Whiskey has announced it will no longer use Conor McGregor’s name or image following the court ruling convicting him of raping Nikita Hand, reports The Sun.
Last week’s jury decision has intensified calls to boycott products associated with the Irish MMA star.
McGregor was the founder of Proper No. Twelve Whiskey but sold the brand to Proximo Spirits, which has now decided to sever its association with him for marketing purposes.
"Going forward, we do not plan to use Mr. McGregor’s name and likeness in the marketing of the brand," Proximo Spirits stated.
Several retailers have also removed McGregor-associated products from their shelves, including Proper No. Twelve Whiskey and Forged Irish Stout, a beer brand owned by the fighter. Retailers such as Musgrave, BWG Foods, Tesco, and others have announced they will no longer stock these items.
Additionally, video game company IO Interactive, creators of the popular Hitman franchise, has reportedly ended its collaboration with McGregor.
