Southampton fell to Tottenham with a 1-3 defeat in the latest Premier League round, becoming the first team officially relegated from the top tier of English football.
The team's head coach Ivan Juric left his position 108 days after his appointment, noted for one of the worst records in the tournament's history.
Details: According to Opta, Southampton collected only four points in 14 matches under Juric's leadership. The Croatian specialist averaged just 0.29 points per game — the worst result among all managers in Premier League history who have conducted at least ten matches.
Southampton set a new negative record for the championship. Previously, only Ipswich (1994/95), Derby (2007/08), Huddersfield (2018/19), and Sheffield United (2020/21) were relegated with six rounds left in the season.
Moreover, the Saints might break another negative record — for the fewest points in a season. In the 2007/08 season, Derby County accumulated only 11 points. Southampton currently has 10 points, with seven matches remaining.
Reminder: In the same round, Liverpool conceded three times in the first half of a Premier League match for the first time since October 2020 — back then, it was a 2-7 defeat to Aston Villa.
