Fabian Ruiz leaves Spain squad ahead of match against Czechia. What is the reason?
Midfielder Fabian Ruiz will miss today’s UEFA Nations League match between Spain and Czechia. The player left the team’s training camp in Oviedo early and traveled to Paris to be present for the birth of his first child, Marca reports.
The happy news came while Ruiz was in the middle of an extended national-team camp. Spain head coach Luis de la Fuente gave the midfielder permission to leave the squad so he could share this special moment with his family.
However, it is impossible to replace Ruiz in the matchday squad. Pau Cubarsí and Carlos Espejo, who were not included on the roster for the game against Czechia, will also be unable to play, as UEFA regulations require the final squad list to be submitted on the eve of the match.
It is worth noting that Spain head into the game in excellent form. In the opening round of the UEFA Nations League, the team defeated England 3-2 away from home before thrashing Croatia 4-1. As a result, Spain have collected six points and sit top of Group A3.
The Spain–Czechia match will take place on October 3 in Oviedo. Spain will therefore face the game without one of their key midfielders, who has been given the chance to experience an important family moment.
