Expanding horizons: LeBron James launches his own powerboat racing team
NBA legend LeBron James continues to explore new challenges in the sports world. The basketball superstar has founded his own team to compete in the E1 Series powerboat races, reports TMZ.
On January 23, James announced the formation of Team AlUla, which will compete in the all-electric powerboat racing series starting in the 2025 season. With this move, LeBron joins other high-profile team owners, including Will Smith and Tom Brady.
James’ team will feature Katy Mannings and Rusty Wyatt. Wyatt, who has been involved in powerboat racing since the age of 12, believes LeBron’s involvement will bring massive attention to the sport.
“Anything LeBron does, people are gonna follow. He's such an icon to so many different people,” Wyatt stated.
Wyatt is eager to meet James and has even offered to take the NBA star for a ride on one of their boats. Notably, Team AlUla’s powerboat measures six meters in length and can reach speeds of 112 km/h.
