Even after two decades with the national team, Lionel Messi still faces brand new challenges.

Details: In the 2026 World Cup semifinal, Argentina will take on England. The match will be played on July 15 in Atlanta, and for the 39-year-old Albiceleste captain, it will be his first-ever game against the English.

It’s remarkable, but in more than 20 years of international football, Messi has never stepped onto the pitch against England. The last time these teams met, in 2005, the Argentine star missed out due to a suspension he received after being sent off on his national team debut.

Both teams made it to the semifinals after extra time: Argentina overcame Switzerland 3-1, while England edged past Norway 2-1.

Interestingly, Messi has faced English clubs far more frequently: the Argentine has scored 27 goals in 35 matches against them. Now, the legendary forward is set to test himself against the England national team for the very first time.

Reminder: Ten minutes were enough. Messi sets another World Cup record.
