Euromatch NPFL: Gbenga Ogunbote Urges Plateau United to Remain Focused After Victory Over Kano Pillars

Plateau United head coach Gbenga Ogunbote has cautioned his players against becoming overconfident following their convincing 4-0 victory over Kano Pillars in their NPFL Matchday 8 fixture at New Jos Stadium on Sunday.

Ogunbote described the result as a significant confidence boost for the team, particularly as it ended Kano Pillars' seven-game unbeaten run. He also noted that the local rivalry between the two sides added to the significance of the victory.

"Well, I think one needs not to be carried away with the result. It's just one out of 38 games. I think the only thing is that it motivates the players and enhances their confidence level; that at least if they can do it against Kano Pillars, then they can do it against any other team in the league. I think it's a good one for the team. Together, it was an achievement. I think it was a good one for us because so many things played
out behind the game: 1, it was a derby; 2, they had a seven-game unbeaten run, and that is enough to motivate a team to win. That we broke the jinx was a good one for us, and as I told you, it will just enhance the confidence level of my players.”

The Plateau United coach also emphasised the importance of keeping the squad fit as the season progresses, noting that squad depth could prove decisive. He said he hopes to have all his players available for selection, as a strong team requires quality options on the bench as well as on the field.

“I think my prayer is that every player should be available for selection, so it will be good for the team, because a good team is not a team that just has good players on the field, but your bench can also make a difference too.”

Gbenga Ogunbote and his team will aim to build on their recent form in their next NPFL fixture.
