Barcelona and Spain midfielder Aitana Bonmatí has been urgently hospitalized, where she was diagnosed with viral meningitis, according to Marca.
The two-time Ballon d'Or winner suffered from a high fever for two days, causing her to miss training and be left out of the squad for the friendly against Japan (3-1), which took place on Friday, June 27.
The player is being treated with intravenous medication, and doctors are closely monitoring her condition. There is no timeline yet for Bonmatí's return to the pitch, but the national team remains hopeful she will recover in time for the start of the 2025 European Championship, which will be held in Switzerland from July 2 to 27.
