Swiss football legend Murat Yakin will continue his tenure as the head coach of the Swiss national team.
The Swiss Football Federation has officially announced the extension of Yakin's contract until 2026. This means he will lead the team in the Nations League and the World Cup 2026 qualifiers.
Yakin has been managing the Swiss national team since the summer of 2021, succeeding Vladimir Petković, who held the position for seven years.
The 49-year-old Yakin faced significant criticism for Switzerland finishing second in the Euro 2024 qualifiers, behind the modest Romanian team. However, his side redeemed themselves at Euro 2024. Switzerland advanced from their group, finishing ahead of Scotland and Hungary, and defeated Italy 2-0 in the round of 16. In the quarterfinals, they narrowly lost to England in a penalty shootout.
