Ethiopian athlete Yomif Kejelcha sets new half marathon world record
In Valencia, Spain, Ethiopian runner Yomif Kejelcha claimed victory in the men’s half-marathon with a record-breaking time.
Details: Kejelcha completed the 21.0975 km distance in 57 minutes and 30 seconds, overcoming high humidity conditions in Valencia.
Despite initially trailing the leaders, Kejelcha closed the gap by the end and secured his win. This half-marathon marked the sixth of his career.
The previous men’s half-marathon world record was held by Uganda’s Jacob Kiplimo, who completed the distance in Lisbon three years ago, taking one second longer than Kejelcha.
In the women’s half marathon, Agnes Ngetich won with a time of 63 minutes and 4 seconds.
Reminder: Kejelcha is a two-time indoor world champion in the 3000 meters and competed in the 10,000-meter event at this year’s Olympics in Paris, where he placed sixth.
He also holds the world indoor mile record, set in Boston in 2019.
