End of an era! FIFA discontinues annual 'The Best' awards. What’s behind the decision?

FIFA has decided to discontinue the annual “The Best” awards, as the football governing body works on an alternative.

Details: FIFA has opted to abolish its yearly "The Best" award and is developing a new format. Reports indicate that a new ceremony will be organized in partnership with the Dubai Sports Council, which is also a partner of the Globe Soccer Awards. The new ceremony will debut in 2026.

Reminder: The award was first introduced in 2016 after France Football decided to separate from FIFA and present the Ballon d'Or independently.
