Star Al Ahly midfielder Emam Ashour expressed serious resentment over recent accusations that he feigned injury to avoid joining Egypt's national team in its Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Cape Verde and Botswana. The controversy was born after Egyptian Football Association board member Ehab El Komy questioned a rather critical injury sustained by Ashour during Al Ahly's match against ZED in the Egyptian Premier League.

In a live TV interview, Ashour responded, "It's an honor to represent Egypt and every player dreams of wearing the national jersey." He further declared, in order to diffuse the rumors, "Why single me out? Many players miss call-ups due to injury, yet my commitment is questioned." Ashour explained he was suffering from a hamstring strain and assured fans he had no reason to feign an injury.

Ashour, who joined Al Ahly from Denmark's FC Midtjylland last season, continues to be out as Egypt prepares for its final qualifiers on November 15 and 19.
