Egyptian Premier League: Pyramids Defeat Zamalek 3-0 to Secure Egyptian League Top Spot
Pyramids FC secured their top spot in the Egyptian Premier League standings with 24 point after defeating Zamalek 3–0 in the 11th round.
Pyramids dominated the second half following close first half. Rwandan striker Fiston Mayele opened the scoring in the 58th minute with a powerful shot that goalkeeper Mohamed Awad failed to stop.
Mostafa Fathi broke through Zamalek's frail defense 6 minutes later and finished calmly to increase the advantage. Ibrahim Adel's well-placed shot inside the penalty area in the 70th minute gave them the victory.
This loss has dealt a severe blow to Zamalek, who currently trail Pyramids by four points with 20 point. The squad and management are under further pressure as they continue to struggle to stay in the championship chase.
After the 3rd goal, supporters threw water bottles at the club's board and chanted against it in fury.
During the game, Zamalek also experienced injury problems. After playing with pain at first, midfielder Abdallah Said was replaced in the 44th minute because of a muscular injury.
In the 62nd minute, right back Omar Gaber was also substituted off. Medical examinations will be performed on both athletes to ascertain how long they would need to recuperate.
Pyramids’ victory strengthens their title ambitions, while Zamalek must regroup quickly to avoid further setbacks in the league.
