Kaizer Chiefs’ central midfielder may be on the verge of leaving the club in the near future.
Details: 31-year-old Edson Castillo quickly became a fan favorite in his debut season with the Amakhosi, but his second campaign was marred by a fibula injury, limiting him to just nine appearances all year.
In February, Castillo signed a new one-year contract with an extension option and made his return to the pitch late in the season. However, this did little to change the situation—within the club, opinions remain divided regarding his future.
This uncertainty has prompted Castillo's representatives to start exploring alternative options during the off-season, especially if the midfielder is not guaranteed regular first-team action in the upcoming campaign.
Reports suggest that Nasreddine Nabi may not oppose Castillo’s departure, as this would give the club more flexibility in the transfer market and ease the wage bill, with Kaizer Chiefs aiming to bring in new foreign talent to strengthen the squad.
