The NHL team Edmonton Oilers has successfully extended the contract of one of its leaders.

On their official X (formerly Twitter) page, the Oilers announced that they have reached an agreement with German forward Leon Draisaitl. The contract is for eight years, starting with the 2025/26 season.

Under the new deal, the player will earn $14 million, making him the highest-paid player in the NHL.

It is worth noting that last season, the Edmonton Oilers reached the Stanley Cup Final but lost to the Florida Panthers 3-4 in the series.

Additionally, Connor McDavid of the Edmonton Oilers was named the best player of the playoffs. For the first time since 2003, the Conn Smythe Trophy was awarded to a player from the losing team in the finals.

Moreover, another historic event occurred in the NHL regarding a coaching appointment.
