Newcastle defeated Liverpool in the English League Cup final. The "Magpies" secured a 2-1 victory, claiming their first trophy in England since 1955.
The main architect of the black-and-whites' historic success was the team's head coach, Eddie Howe.
Details. Howe became the first English manager to win an English trophy since Harry Redknapp with Portsmouth in 2008 (FA Cup), and the first to do so in the League Cup since Steve McClaren with Middlesbrough in 2004.
Interestingly, the last domestic manager to win in the top division was Howard Wilkinson with Leeds in 1992.
Reminder. Newcastle won the English League Cup for the first time in their history. In total, this title became the 13th in the "Magpies" history.
