Echeverri's Manchester City Future in Doubt: "He’ll Never Play," Claims UK Reporter Echeverri's Manchester City Future in Doubt: "He’ll Never Play," Claims UK Reporter

Claudio "Diablito" Echeverri has yet to make his official debut for Manchester City, and doubts over his future with the Premier League giants are growing ahead of the summer transfer window. As reported by The Athletic, club correspondent Sam Lee said bluntly on his podcast Let Me Talk, “Forget about Echeverri. He’s never going to play.”

Although the Argentine trains regularly with the first team, he hasn’t appeared on the bench or made a matchday squad. Lee added, “I don’t think he’s that good, but they obviously signed him for a reason,” suggesting he might eventually be flipped for profit: “Maybe it’s just to sell him to Como for €25 million one day.”

City secured Echeverri from River Plate for €24 million, allowing him to stay on loan in Argentina throughout 2024. His current deal runs through 2028. Lee argues that the teenager is still “very raw” and was never seriously in City’s short-term plans.

Despite the skepticism, Echeverri remains upbeat in official club interviews, expressing his eagerness to adapt and learn. At 18, he already boasts four goals and eight assists in 48 games for River, plus a standout campaign with Argentina's youth teams. Still, a breakthrough at City seems out of reach for now.
