Farouk Kadodia has broken silence on why Durban City opted to appoint Ben Youssef Khalil at the club.

Kadodia's City was linked with Eric Tinkler, Ernst Middendorp to mention two as the season ended and it became clearer that former interim coach, Pitso Dladla, would not be their permanent gaffer.

This is despite the fact that it was under Dladla Durban City won last season's Nedbank Cup and a top eight finish in the Betway Premiership.

“Khalil is a coach with strong experience, excellent technical knowledge and a clear understanding of the modern game. We believe he is the right person to lead the next phase of Durban City Football Club’s journey. Over the past two seasons we have built a strong foundation, and our focus now is to continue growing the Club both on and off the field," said Kadodia via a club statement.

“We are confident that Khalil possesses the leadership, character and football philosophy required to help us achieve our ambitions, and we are delighted to welcome him to Durban City FC.”

The former Kaizer Chiefs man will lead Durban City on the continent as the team qualified for the Caf Confederation Cup by virtue of winning the Nedbank Cup.
