Real Madrid TV has wasted no time in responding to Vinicius Junior's four-match suspension, and the club's official channel chose to make its point by invoking the name of Barcelona's Lamine Yamal.

Details: Shortly after the disciplinary committee announced the sanction, Real Madrid TV issued a statement dripping with sarcasm: "We can't imagine Lamine Yamal being suspended for 4 matches after pulling someone's hair." The message is clear: the club believes its star is held to a different standard than his Barcelona counterpart.

The comparison did not come out of nowhere. Real Madrid have been running a long-running campaign against what they see as refereeing double standards, and their own television channel has been its loudest weapon. Earlier this season, the club published statistics claiming Vinicius must endure 16 fouls before an opponent is booked, while Yamal draws a yellow card for his marker every three fouls.

The timing of the reaction is also loaded. Vinicius was banned for two matches for the hair pull on Villarreal's Nathan Saliba and two more for his aggressive protest towards the referee, and he will now miss the trip to Sevilla, El Clásico at Barcelona's Camp Nou, the visit to Racing Santander and the home game against Valencia.

The rivalry angle will only sharpen the narrative. Madrid fans are already bracing for October 25's Clásico without their Brazilian talisman, while Yamal, who escaped sanction in several heated incidents of his own last season, is expected to lead the hosts. Madrid TV's jab ensures the refereeing debate will rage all the way to kick-off.

It is worth noting that Vinicius remains available for the Champions League, and Real Madrid are expected to appeal the domestic sanction. Mourinho's side face Roma on Wednesday night, where the forward can at least keep playing while his club fights the ban off the pitch.

Reminder: Bad news for Barcelona! Will Raphinha play in the next match?
